Privacy Policy

Introduction

This policy is intended to be read by adults over 18. Children should check with a parent, guardian or teacher before using this website.

The Sky Class website (www.sky-class.co.uk) is owned and operated by Mr Jones Codes- the trading name of Matthew Philip Jones.

We take privacy seriously at Mr Jones Codes and this policy explains what personal information we collect and use, and how we protect your rights to privacy. By providing us with any information about yourself when you contact us or use our website, you consent to allow us to process your personal information as per this Policy.

Changes to our Privacy Policy

We may amend this Privacy Policy at any time in order to make improvements and if we do so, we will publish the change on this page. Be sure to check this page regularly for any changes to this policy.

This Privacy Policy was last updated on 6th March 2021.

Terminology

The following definitions are quoted from Data protection for education providers published by the UK government:

Data Controller
“Data controller means a person, company or other body that determines the purpose and means by which personal data is processed. Educational establishments, such as schools, colleges and universities, are often data controllers in their own right.”
Data Processor
“Data processor means anyone who handles personal data on the instructions of a controller. Examples include, storing, collecting or analysing data as part of a service provided to the controller.”

Teachers who sign up to an account on our platform

  1. When adults aged over 18 create an account on our platform, we collect and store personal data from those users and therefore act as a Data Controller.
  2. We collect personal data to allow us to provide services such as being able to identify who you are when you log in and in order to meet our Safeguarding responsibilities.
  3. From your account, you can access all the personal information we store- and choose to edit or remove optional fields. If you wish to remove mandatory fields, you may delete your account.
  4. We will use the work email address provided to send emails to you regarding essential updates regarding your role on the Platform as a Teacher or Admin, while your account is active.
  5. We will use your backup email as one way to confirm your identity if you lose access to your work email account.
  6. If requested by the relevant safeguarding authority, we will fully cooperate with that authority and will share information with them when it is relevant to a safeguarding case.

Students who use the educational resources which we provide to teachers

  1. Schools act as Data Controller for the personal information of students.
  2. When teachers register a class and store the personal information of students on our platform, we are not collecting information directly from students. Instead, it is the school’s responsibility as Data Controller to make sure they have parental consent to collect student data and store it on our platform. Additionally, it is a school’s responsibility to decide if they have parental consent for children’s use of our website.
  3. Children under 18 will never be our customers and we do not take payments from children, or allow children to make online purchases of any kind.
  4. We deliberately limit the personal information that we may process about children to:
    • Username
    • Date of Birth
  5. However, we will process reasonable non-personal data relating to the children reflecting their learning targets and education. This may include targets set by their teacher or statistics relating to their achievements in activities. This is only collected in the spirit of the students' best interests and right to an Education; it is not used for marketing purposes.
  6. The children’s names will be visible to other children in the same class who log in to the class portal. This allows children to find their account and log in. It will not be visible to anyone not logged in to the class portal.
  7. The children’s date of birth will not be visible on the website.
  8. We will never transfer children’s personal data with 3rd parties.
  9. Parents have a right to request information on what information we hold about their child and to withdraw their consent. However, while we can respond to parents with the exact types of data we hold- it would not be practical for us to share the values- as we cannot reasonably verify if someone contacting us is truly the parent of that child (without collecting more data). Therefore- we suggest such requests be made through a child’s teacher. In any case of dispute which cannot be reasonably resolved, we will treat that as a removal of consent and delete that child’s data immediately.
  10. Any other data which teachers store relating to those students is strictly not personal, rather it will be related to that student’s learning and progress.

People who contact us

  1. When you contact us via a form on our site, we will collect an email address which we will use to respond to your enquiry. We also store your message subject and content.
  2. We ask that if children under 18 wish to contact us, that an adult submits the message on their behalf using the adult’s email address. We do not store the email addresses of children.
  3. We will not use that email address to send out marketing emails.
  4. We will keep your email and message for the time necessary to respond or take on board your feedback, after which it will be deleted. The only exception is if you give us permission to store your message permanently as a testimonial.
  5. If you have contacted us and would like to know what information we store about you, please contact us again. We will happily remove your address immediately after.

Storing and Protecting your Information

  1. We take steps to protect your personal information from unauthorised access using generally accepted security measures.
  2. The measures and safeguards include, but are not limited to, limiting access to the data to those persons who need it to complete their work for Mr Jones Codes (including technical support from the web platform), encrypting web traffic and emails which may include personal data using Transport Layer Security (TLS), using firewalls and anti-virus software to protect computer systems, and storing personal information in secure operating environments.
